Pacifiers
When my son was first born, I chose to use the avent pacifier because of it's claim to "respect the natural development of baby's palate, teeth and gums". Since my brother had had issues with his teeth that were believed to be caused by having a soother, I wanted to be sure I got my son just the right one.
Well, I must have done a good job picking because he kept that thing until he was almost 4 years old.
Now having had my daughter, we've been trying out different pacifiers.
We gave her some made by Nuk, others made by Dr Browns, and of course - Avent. S wouldn't take a soother until around 6 weeks old, but when she finally did, Avent it was. She now refuses the other soothers she has in her bed in favor of her avent soother.
So Avent is the winner in this house.

Re: Pacifiers
We use NUK. They all claim to protect the teeth now. NUK is cheapest and the only one she likes, so, we're okay. That being said I never wanted her to have one, and were pressured into it. Ugh.

Re: Pacifiers
Yea, we received a lot of pressure to use a soother as well. I wasn't planning to use them with her either, but low and behold... She's not as bad with them as my son was though, she doesn't seem to rely on it too heavily except for sleep.
Re: Pacifiers
Same here. When she was sick she wanted it but other than that its for sleeping and drs appts.
It didnt hurt my supply because we gave it to her after 12 weeks but im still pissed i caved

Re: Pacifiers
Topping up is the silent supply killer lol
Grace used to comfort nurse from 9pm-12 every night for months. I think thats why I had enough milk to fill a grown man.

Re: Pacifiers
We weren't even topping up, my supply died because - 1, I started alesse birth control against my midwifes advice because my doctor said my supply would be established, and 2, we were ONLY formula feeding over Christmas. I wasn't bfing until we got home and only occasionally pumping.
Re: Pacifiers
I think it is easier to take a pacifier away than fingers... most kids I have watched Nuk soother lovers... Nothing is cuter than a baby with a suckie... just saying

I think so too. I secretly wish I introduced my DD to a pacifier. My Dd at the age of 3.5 still sucks her finger when she sleeps, it's a pain to check for the finger and take it out lol... hopefully she is not going to end up with buck teeth

Re: Pacifiers
I tend to take it out for pictures if she has it. Mommy wars make me nervous I guess.

Re: Pacifiers
Don't worry about Mommy wars lol, I take Scarletts out too lol. More so because I like to be able to see her face in pictures and because my son grew so dependant on his and I don't want Scarlett to do the same.
